Step 65 -Planning Ahead
Bava Kama 46b
This teaches how we must appreciate & utilize our ability to think ahead for serving Hashem.
* when people were hurt due to wearing spiked shoes , the Sages decreed that we should avoid them
Shabos 60a.
# a person who responds to a verbal attack in a tough way tends to aggravate the situation. Thus Mishlei 15:1 teaches - A gentle response will calm anger.
This advice is so potent that
The great Abayei used to repeat it frequently as a favorite , beneficial slogan. Brochos 17a.
Thus we need to stay alert to avoid possible dangers & / or to avoid dissension.

Step 64 - WoW
7 questions :
- does anyone say WoW when they use it?
- are there any happy surprises for the user ?
- do they feel it is a pleasant change ?
- is there any fun to it ?
- is it energetic ?
- is it refreshing ?
- Does it redefine your expectations ?
There is a shocking revealation in Tosfos in Brochos 37 a where we discover what Hashem had in mind when He created Apples (the real ones ). Its the top tosfos 4 lines down from top.
It is actually so amazing that books have been written to explain it & we will only use the two words of tosfos for now - letaanuk balmah.

Step 63 - Examples
If you have space & you are going somewhere there is an obligation to help others when possible.
- you need to focus on
Safety , being on time , & courtesy.
- you can have bottles of water for your geusts , a fruit basket , other snacks
- you can offer to play music tapes or thinking , torah tapes
- you can offer a cell phone for their use
- you can insist they pay for the service by sharing a dvar Torah with you or by listening to one from you.
- you can offer to share information with them which they may be in need of.

Step 62 - Learn from Experts
One of the greatest methods Hashem leaves in our hands - it is up to the proportion to which you find out what other successful people are doing , and do the same.
This may seem simple & obvious that we may overlook it. But it is at the risk of transgressing the open Mishna , Avos 4:1 - Who is wise ?
One who learns from all - including the experts.
It has been said that this is the most significant principle for success ever discovered - to learn from experts. But the Mishna says learn from every person- because you never know where you can find a gem that can be utilized to your benefit with Hashems help.

Step 61 -Building ones Desire
Imagine someone who is thinking they would like to make some more money in order to pay some bills.
In short you are looking for a new idea that will help you make
More. You know you need to pray to Hashem & you do so 3 times daily.
Well here is an idea that can get you rolling based on the Mitzva to emulate Hashems ways & the beginning of Breshis.
Hashem creates man as a combination part angel & part animal = MAN.
The rest is history.
We need to emulate Hashem in whatever field of endeavor we are in by asking ourselves - how can I combine A & B to develop a new product or service that will be useful to others ?

Step 60 -When you Search
Hillel would always say -
If I am not for myself , who will be for me
& if not now , when ?
These two lessons in Avos 1:14
Were always on Hillels tongue.
We need to learn to motivate & encourage ourselves.
In english , we can say -
DO IT NOW !
****
Part of being involved is to also get excited !!
This shows that you are thinking about the issues & that you are into it. Mesilas Yeshorim also teaches a secret - that you can decide to act excited & thus generate true excitement & enthusiasm.
The Talmud teaches that to make our Torah Study come alive we need to utilize our voice control when repeating the words of the Torah in an enthusiastic way.
Some points that are useful are :
To speak clearly
At a meaningful pace
Pause & emphasize
In a cheerful manner
With a gentleness.
The more you get into it ,
The more Hashem will help make it come alive.
As Pirkei Avos says repeatedly -
He used to SAY ...

Step 59 -anticipate the Future
Who is wise ?
One who looks ahead.
Tamid 32b
What is the best path for success in life ?
One of 5 sages pinpoints this method of seeing that which may develop as the key to all forms of success.
Avos 2:13.
The ultimate preparation is for the greatest of all futures - the World to Come.
But there are other significant levels such as
- preparing for retirement
- for next year
- for the next 10 minutes
- for even 5 minutes.
It takes training & practice & as one does his part Hashem helps him progress.
One of the lessons that is linked to this is to learn that in many areas of life , PERSISTENCE pays off. To set goals & not to give up praying for them until you achieve it with Hashems help.
This lessons can be continuously be reinforced through looking ahead & seeing how things develop.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
Step 58 -the Bar Mitzva connection
One who is disrespectful to a matter will be injured by it - this fits with the principle of on the path ... Hashem will cause it to trip him up measure for measure.
But one who develops a proper respect for a Mitzva will become complete.
The Gra explains this with the Gemara that every part of ones body corresponds to a Mitzva of the Torah. Thus when we strive to do them all properly we develop our wholeness & completeness.

Accepting more Torah
Pirkei Avos (chap. 3 ) proclaims : all those who accept upon themselves the yoke of Torah they will remove from them the yoke of the govt & that of derech eretz.

Step 56 - Utilize the Negative
What is hateful to you don't do to others- ?
He could have taught -
Love others as yourself.
One answer is when someone hurts us we feel it sharply - that can be utilized to change the world dramaticly.
We are here to emulate Hashem which includes to Love those whom He loves & to hate those who are committed to evil.
Hashem provides you with life , air , water , sun , wind , trees etc.
If you gave such gifts to a freind & he ignores you without even a heartfelt thanks , how would you react ?
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.

Step 55 -On one Foot
The Talmud teaches the secret
To develop the desire to love others & eliminate hate. What you don't like don't do to others. When you seek to love Hashem will help you find it.
The way you act to others , Hashem will cause them to act towards you. You will get what you give.
The secret is not to wait for others to change or to wait for Moshiach to change the whole world , rather we have to grab ourselves by our mind & heart , & change ourselves one step at a time.
You can decide to begin to love others more. You can begin with ... & love him more right now. And keep working at it. As you expand your reach Hashem will assist you more & more !!

Step 54 - Always Avoid
This quote is from Brochos 19 a , 6 lines up.
If a person says negative things about himself it is a form of accepting the possibility rather than praying to Hashem for help to avoid problems. A person should pray for Hashems assisstance to become righteous , repentant & healthy.
You can say , Hashem please help me feel well , please help me learn more , pray better & help others more.
Speak of what you want. Think positive & speak positive & Hashem can help it happen.
When we serve Hashem always with Joy , He can make it even better. Baruch Hashem

Step 53# Secret to Longevity
By showing that we appreciate those who helped provide us with life we deserve more of it. On the path ...
Also , when people honor their parents it enables them to live longer , thus measure for measure the children are rewarded with longevity.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
www.GemsofTorah.com
Step 52 * Matching Principle
One who blesses others , Hashem will bless him in a similar manner.
If we go all out to avoid the sins the Torah instructs us to avoid , Hashem will help us succeed. One example are the laws of avoiding all forms of aroyos.
The root of the word is ayin reish which spells ra when turned around which means bad. The Torah teaches the purpose of marriage - it is not good to be alone- a person needs a helpmate. But the spouse must be suitable - not an ervah - one who is forbidden to him.
When we avoid forbidden relationships , Hashem will enhance our marriages to make them successfull in every way.

Step 51. Avoiding the Negative
We have to Run to Mitzvos & Flee from sins (Avos 4:2 ).
Tehillim declares -
Those who love Hashem hate evil !
We must choose to love Hashem & wish that the entire world should recognize Him & serve Him. We hate the sins & wish the sinners would repent.
We all have to begin with eliminating our own sins & developing an intense love of Hashem & hatred of evil.
Hashem created us with the unique greatness of in His image & as His children with the power of freewill to choose to emulate Hashem in all of our actions & thoughts.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.

Improved Health - step 50
There are two places in Shmone Esrei where we pray for completion.
In Bracha 5 - complete repentance
In Bracha 8 - complete healing.
What is the connection ?
Our body corresponds to our soul. When we strive for returning to Hashem , He is eager to help us to accomplish more. On the path one is ...
One of the purposes of illness is feedback to let us know what to focus on. This means that it can be turned around ... There are many stories of people who have been cured by Hashem when they changed themselves.
In a simple way we see that a person may get a cut & the body grows back together. This is Hashem demonstrating how He wants to help us fix things up.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
www.GemsofTorah.com
Step 49 - you come first
The Talmud - Bava Metzia 62a - teaches 2 opinions :
- share it
- keep it to save your life first. The halacha follows the second view. We are obligated to love others as oneself , but yourself comes first.
What about giving it all away to the other person ?
That is forbidden because you have a Torah obligation to care for the jew called you first.
Since You own this container of water Hashem has provided it for you to utilize it first to save yourself.
Of course as you maintain your life you will also do your best to find more water with which to save others as well.
Thus we learn to keep our priorities straight , on the right path & Hashem will help ...
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
www.GemsofTorah.com
Step 48 - contradictions
Our actions must be in line with what we keep asking Hashem for in order to justify His following through to make it happen for us.
We need to open ourselves up for our expectations to be fulfilled.
Loving others
As yourself , the Torah teaches - so we need to consider :
Do I treat myself the way I would like others to treat me ?
If you behave in a disrespectful manner it is as a signal to others this is what I feel I deserve.
You are setting the tone.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.

Step 47 - wealth mindset
We have to keep saying - I have everything I need , as Yaakov Avinu said.
Keep Giving
One of the proofs that you have abundance is that you keep on giving away Maaser. As you show Hashem your active desire to give by actual giving , He will keep on enabling you to give more.
The Avos , Yosef hatzadik , Moshe Rabeinu were all wealthy in every way. The Torah teaches us how just as we learn to accomplish all goals in life.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
www.GemsofTorah.com
Step 46- avoid being needy
Instead , practice - Who is prosperous ? One who rejoices with his portion ( avos 4:1 ).
We need to change our Thinking.
Focus the great provisions Hashem keeps providing you with. Such vast abundance Baruch Hashem. Hashem will keep providing. You owe Hashem thanks for a lot ,make some deposits regularly , in the Thank You Hashem dept.
Rejoice with your portion & it will expand. Be happy. Feel happy for so much. Now.
Think - Hashem keeps giving me good things & He will give you more & more.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.

Step 45 - seeing reality
Or imagine holding it without thinking about it at all -
What is the difference between these two cases ?
The thoughts.
A third case - you are not holding an apple now but you are thinking of one you once saw - you can generate great feelings of appreciating Hashem by thinking of what He does for you.
The key is to focus our thinking.
We can imagine things & then produce them with Hashems help by means of prayer , persistance & getting on the pathway.
Connect the dots
On the path one is determined to go Hashem will lead him.
It is wise to visualize your goals.
Thus we have a practical approach for moving ahead to achieve.
But how will Hashem do it , you may wonder ?
Let's say you need about 25,000 where will it come from ?
Hashem has many ways , we don't have to worry for Him.
One possibility is He may send you a client / customer who happens to need something you produced or have connections with & you get the sale.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
Wednesday, May 16, 2007
Step 44 - looking Ahead
Who is wise ? One who sees that which will be born , our Sages teach. The mind Hashem gave us can be trained to think ahead & prepare for dealing with the future.
We can visualize & create pictures in our minds , to see ourselves achieving that which we desire to accomplish. Thinking with realistic pictures in our mind is a powerful way to generate our desire to grow & acheive greatness.
When we rehearse in our mind & our desire increases & the actual materializes quicker & smoother.
There is a saying in some ways , machshava kemaaseh - thoughts are as actions.
Thoughts of repentance can change the past , & sincere plans for the future can make it come to fruition.
On the path one is determined to go ...

Step 43- key to Righteousness
Why ? What is the logic of this definition ?
Why isn't he considered a failure ?
Since he is determined to keep on getting up no matter what , his determination keeps on growing which causes Hashem to lead him to higher levels.

Start Small - step 41
But we need to shoot for higher & greator levels as well. How about to merit to have children ?
The Gemara asks the question regarding some of the greatest people in history who had difficulties in this area. Why ?
The answer given is that Hashem was giving them a greator gift first - the opportunity to develop & perfect themselves by such activities as prayer.
But does this contradict the premise of on the path... ?
Perhaps if one would know Hashems reasons for why this is the best for him for now , this is what he would truly want.
As we pray properly we begin to change our thoughts & feelings , and we become more worthy. Pray for growth & expect it. Daven that Hashem should help you become worthy of His great blessings.
The same applies to other areas as well. Pray for more clients / sales etc. Hashem can help you serve as a conduit to help more people.

Step 40 -Enough Time
For that we also need to pray !
Hashem can make more time for us.
Ask Hashem , please help me manage my time more effectively.
This concept is also a great use for spare "waiting time ". It is a great opportunity to catch up with some of your planning prayers.
This can be done almost anywhere , anytime to transform & elevate every situation into a positive Mitzva.
Praying to Hashem is also helpful in clarifying to yourself - what do you really want.
You may not be praying for a parking space because deep down you may want to be late in order to miss... & Hashem may just lead you in that direction. You may even get lost ...
Ps. Don't forget to pray for good directions & for not missing any signposts -if you do want to get there on time.

Step 39- Praying Ahead
If you want to win something at an event , that also requires prayer.
It is essential in life to think & pray for the next few hours of your day in advance. That is why we pray 3 regular prayers daily - Mincha should cover for us until Maariv etc.
The Torah teaches how before Yaakov Avinu made a move he sent Yehuda ahead to set things up & make arrangements. Prayers were also included , in fact they were the main preparation to " fix things up " in advance.
As we prepare for shabos we should also be asking Hashem to help us have a pleasant day in every way , including healthwise , emotional , spiritual & growth in Torah study.

Step 37-Delay Benefits
But do some things seem to take longer than others ?
Some take 3 minutes
Some 30 minutes ,
Some 3 days &
Some 30 days ??
The underlying principle is that it does not take Hashem long to do anything !
There is a well known story of a great sage who was learning the detailed Halacha of a certain type of grasshopper. A question came and he realized that it would be helpful to see a live specimen in order to determine the metzius. Just then that creature flew onto the window & waited for the sage to examine it carefully.
One catch is that it sometimes takes us a long time to decide on what we want. If we can't make up our mind , how can we complain to Hashem for not following through ? He may be waiting for us to ask Him for help on the path that we are eager to go on.
If we make a mistake & think , this is difficult it will take at least 3 months , Hashem may say - if you don't have more faith & trust in Me you may not deserve it yet.
Have you ever thought I need to speak to so & so about ... & then the person suddenly calls you ?
You may have activated this principle - on the path one is determined to go Hashem will lead him.

Step 36 - secret of Life

Thus the more we strive to do so according to the Torahs guidelines , the more Hashem will lead him to have even more.

step 35 -Food Focus
Thus we can better by thinking of the process of chewing our food. Consider the gifts from Hashem of the delicious food & of your mouth , tongue , teeth , saliva , cheeks , etc enabling you to enjoy the sensation of eating Hashems healthy , nutritious food.
Hashem created tasty food for you to enjoy. When you appreciate it properly , the flavor is so great & intense that you will be satisfied with eating less & enjoying it more.
Who is wealthy ?
One who rejoices with his portion. Avos 4:1.
One of the signs of a kosher animal is that it chews its cud. This is symbolic , the Gra explains of a good healthy person who eats less & chews more.
When you enjoy Hashems gifts & bless Him for it ,He will provide you with even more.

Step 33 - Question of Work
We know there is a Mitzva to love Hashem & there is a Mitzva to love people , but why work ?
The answer is linked to our topic. Hashem is leading you on your path. Thus we need to ask ourselves- where do I want to go ?
We should desire most to serve Hashem ! To do what He wants us to do.
He puts us here to study His Torah , connect with prayer & to help others. He thus creates each of us with specific missions to accomplish which we need to do with love.

Step 26 - key to Wealth
This fits with the principle - on the path one desires Hashem will lead him. By rejoicing with your portion you demonstrate your desire to be happy by starting with what you have , thus Hashem will give you more.
Thus the verse says
A person with a good heart is always happy as one who is having a party. Mishlei 15:15.
When you focus on the good Hashem is providing you with right now , He will continue to provide you with ongoing parties.
When you think good thoughts , you help bring them about.

Step 25 - Run to ...
Avos 4:2 - run to every Mitzva
Run away from every sin
Why ?
Rabeinu Yona explains each mitzva brings you closer to Hashem & it also trains you to make it easier to do more mitzvos.
In addition Hashem will also assist you to perform more mitzvos.
On the path one is determined to go. .. The word rotzeh - to desire
& rotz - to run are of the same rootword. When you run you develop your desire.

Step 24 - a conflict
Hashem leads a person on the path he chooses &
When do we say
Hashem always does what is best ??
We can answer with an illustration let's say there is a person who stuffs himself with food.
It is a harmful process which is also sinful.
Hashem could stop him in his tracks or allow him to continue. Hashem may decide to let him suffer the consequences of his actions in order to teach him to wake up & come to his sense & realize the purpose of life.

Step 23 - Dual Desires
We can say that Hashem will see which of the two he desires most !
If you think about it more that counts. But if you do something about it that counts even more.
On the path one is determined to go means that you get on the road ,you take action.

Step -22 - Time Delay
We need to be thankful to Hashem when we notice a time delay because it is always for our benefit. All that Hashem does is for good.
It gives us time to reevaluate , to think about what we really want for sure. Consider can you elevate your desires & think even better thoughts. ?
If I am not for myself who will be ? Avos 1:14.
Think - does Hashem want me to settle for less greatness if I have the potential to achieve more ?

Step 20 - get along Better
You need to focus on the good of that person. Look for the good they have done & keep on doing. There is something that is magnificent about them ! Find it , acknowledge it & train yourself to appreciate it.
You can turn a relationship around - it takes about 10 days of focussing on what you appreciate about that person.
All this is included in the Mishna who is honorable ? One who honors others ! Avos 4:1.
Who is in charge ? Hashem put you in power of honoring & respecting others & He will cause them to respond.

Step 18 - going Back
If the spirit of the powers will rise up against you , don't leave your place - Koheles 10: 4.
Rav Miller ztl explained that the Yetzer hora tries to knock us down in many ways. He can get us to do foolish things & then convince us to run far away which only makes things worse.
Rather , we have to pick up the pieces & go back & Hashem will help us do teshuva. It is embarassing , it hurts & it is difficult but in the long run it is the best approach. Stay on the path , stay determined that you will hold on no matter what & Hashem will make it work in incredible ways.

Step 17 - self discipline

Singing is good for our body & for our neshama / soul.
Hashem gave each of us a voice & He loves to hear from us.
Do you want to be happy ?
The secret is to rejoice & sing about all the great portions Hashem is providing you with all the time (Avos 4:1).
Singing itself is a gift we all get from Hashem & we need to practice it daily. Praising Hashem brings us closer to Him & there is a lot to sing about that.

Respect Parents & Shabos
Thus as it is incumbent on us to gaurd the shabos because it is the day for celebrating Hashem s creating the world , so too we revere our parents who were empowered by Hashem to serve as partners in bringing us to life.
Just as if Hashem would have decided not to do creation we would have been in trouble , so too if our parents had chosen not to be there for us , G-d forbid.
We must therefore express our thanks , love & reverence to them on a regular basis. !!

But - Step nine
Consider that Hashem can easily solve the situation in many ways. Imagine if Hashem sent a good friend of yours to bump into you & say , oh I need a favor.
I happen to have 20 thousand available now & I need someone to hold on to it for a few months. Could you please help me with it ?
You can change the way you are thinking.
You can learn part 3 of the mishna in Avos 4:1 , one hundred & one times. There you will find the secret to how to appeal to Hashem to help you by learning to appreciate your portion that He has already provided you with.
Just as one who always complains may be in trouble , one who is always thankful will be rewarded.
The shortcut to gaining what you desire is to be happy now & to say like Yaakov said - yesh li chol - I have everthing ( I need ). Breshis 33 : 11.

One step - 8
On the path one is determned to go - guides us to hold on to our positive goals , to clarify & pinpoint what we want so that we invoke a full measure of Hashems assisstance.
One example of how far this goes is the Talmudic story of a person who suffered a tragic loss. After the time of mourning was over the person kept on extending the process. Finally the Rav told the person to stop or else. The story has a sad ending but the lesson is very powerful.
We can change our lives by changing the way we think.
One who keeps on complaining may find more & more reasons to do do !

Mitzvos Relating to Our Fellow Man
33: Laws of Commerce
"When you make a sale to your friend or make a purchase from him... [you
shall buy and sell fairly]." (Vayikra 25: 14-15)
In Parshas Behar, we are given a number of guidelines on how we should buy
and sell assets. Land is acquired by money, a document, or the physical
act of working the field (chazakah). It is a mitvah to follow the Torah's
guidelines in all transactions of buying and selling.
We can ask, why does the Torah provide all these guidelines? Why can't
people just do what they want?
We are taught that everything in Hashem's world has a purpose, and each
person has his time and place (Avos 4:3). Thus, there are Torah methods
of establishing ownership which attach an item to its owner in a
meaningful way and make it part of his responsibility in life.
Upon one's entrance to the World to Come, the first quesiton he will be
asked will be, "Were you honest in your business dealings?" (Shabbos 31a)

One Step - 4
Our Sages teach that we should train ourselves to reveiw our Torah studies daily as a song that we love.
Have you ever enjoyed a song to the point that it kept playing over & over again in your mind ? One reason for this may be that you were focusing & paying attention to it with the feeling I wish I could have more of this.
Hashem may be assisting you to enjoy it even more.
Rashi in Sanhedrin 99b (top line ) explains this - by continuously reviewing your learning it becomes more imprinted in your mind & heart. It becomes internalized & eternalized !!
What is the flipside ?
This may be shocking so grab a seat. One who studies Torah but does not review it is like a person who plants but does not harvest.
It is like saying , I don't really care about this gem of Torah. Hashem may respond with , if so than I don't know if I will make it a part of your collection of treasures.

One step - 3
Every time you go from place to place you use it !
When you think let me do ... You are activating this system Hashem designed for your benefit.
The key now is to learn how to use this great skill more effectively. To use it intentionally to serve Hashem.
For example the Talmud teaches us - give a Tenth to Charity with the intention that you want to become wealthy.
What does that mean ?
Rabeinu Chananel explains that whenever you give you should be thinking - I want to give more. But I may not be able to afford it now ? So Hashem please help me do it ! ! Hashem will lead if you are eager to.

Concepts of Mitzva Treasures.
1 - after a woman has a baby she has to recuperate for a period of time ...
2 - she may not even handle holy items during that time.
3 - than she is to bring some offerings.
How wonderful to appreciate these concepts. There are priorities in life. There are times to take off & focus on specific needs & don't lose the focus even when certain issues are holy at other times.
And then focus on thanking Hashem for His super gifts to us.
