Subject: Good Job!

Dear Rabbi Goldberg:

I am writing to express my gratitude to you for taking the time and effort to write Good Job: Successful Strategies for Devoping Your Work Potential.

Not only is it wonderful to see an explication of the various Pirkei Avoth that are so often quoted, and reviewed during the summer months, but also to have a practical discussion of those many Avoth that can be applied to work.

I have already personally gained a great deal from reading the book, but will also suggest that it be shared with the organizations that help Jews to find jobs (OU [NYC],  Agudah PCS [Brooklyn & Lakewood], Project Chizuk [Passaic], Jewish Vocational Service [East Orange, NJ])

At one time many of the practical issues you address were a part of both  Jewish and American corporate culture. B'EH, we should all incorporate the values and attitudes you explain so clearly and be moved to learn the practical halakhoth which apply from Seder Nezikin.

Respectfully,
Jonah G. Sinowitz

What are the 4 greatest gifts we hope Hashem will grant us ?

Hint - 2 are in this weeks Parsha.

The Talmud , Nedorim 64b , says 4 are considered as dead - a poor person , leper , blind or one without children.

Tosfos explains we always need to pray to Hashem that we should not suffer from any of these.
We also need to keep thanking Hashem for all of His favors.

B"H

The Rubashkin-Pesach petition you signed last week is not being used per the recommendation of community leaders, but they ask you to please sign this new petition ASAP, and to ask at least 10 contacts to sign!

It's urgent that you sign the NEW PETITION available at www.justiceforsholom.org
even if you already signed the Pesach petition!

It's critical that we have 50,000 signatures by Sunday - so that we can take the campaign to the press IY"H. Please get 10 friends to sign the petition! Don't rely on someone else...response has been poor...please take a minute now and do it.

Please also voice your concern by sending an email to Department of Justice:
oipl@usdoj.gov and copy pr@justiceforsholom.org

Check below to find a message you can forward to friends.

Time is of essence! The Prosecutor has to make their recommendation for sentencing on April 9th. It's imperative they know that Americans nationwide are deeply disturbed. Please act Now!!!! Thank you!

-----------------------------------------------
To all friends and constituents of Agudath Israel:

We have been working closely with Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin's lawyers and other organizations and askonim concerned about his incarceration and his upcoming sentencing, currently scheduled for April 28. This tragic case is at a critical juncture right now, and demands our attention and action even as we are all busy with Pesach.

In issuing this call to our friends and constituents, we are in no way condoning any criminal conduct. However, as detailed in the memo available at http://tinyurl.com/yj372kj prepared by a lawyer familiar with the case, it is clear that the federal government has been overly zealous in pursuing Mr. Rubashkin and has submitted him to considerably more severe restrictions and potential punishment than others in similar cases. The memo is quite an eye-opener, well worth reading despite its length.

The bottom line is that Mr. Rubashkin is being kept in jail pending sentencing, and is not even being allowed to go home for the Pesach sedorim next week, despite his willingness to post a large bond and hire a full-time guard. With respect to the sentencing, he faces the possibility of a very lengthy sentence - upward of 20 years, Rch'l - far beyond the sentences imposed on others whose crimes were significantly more severe than anything Mr. Rubashkin may have done.

We are therefore asking you, our friends and constituents, to take a few minutes during this zman cheiruseinu to communicate your respectful concern over the handling of the Rubashkin case, his incarceration pending sentencing, and the excessive sentence being considered.

Please make your concerns known to the Justice Department's Office of Intergovernmental and Public Liaison at 202-514-3465 or oipl@usdoj.gov . Also, if you are able, please sign the online petition available at www.justiceforsholom.org ; this petition will be forwarded to the U.S. Attorney's office in Iowa, which is prosecuting the Rubashkin case. We are hopeful that this expression of public support will have a positive impact on the case.

Many thanks. Best wishes for a chag kasher v'someiach. May we share besoros tovos.

Work will be done - is explained because Hashem runs the world.

Subject: Re: Hi

"Good morning, and thank you for joining me. Many of you in this room are my friends. Many of you in this room know me.

Many of you have cheered for me or you've worked with me or you've supported me.

"Now every one of you has good reason to be critical of me. I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am

deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in.

"I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done

these things to my wife Elin and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some

things I want to say.

"Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my

real apology to her will not come in the form of words; it will come from my behaviour over time. We have a lot to

discuss; however, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

"I am also aware of the pain my behaviour has caused to those of you in this room. I have let you down, and I have

let down my fans. For many of you, especially my friends, my behaviour has been a personal disappointment.

"To those of you who work for me, I have let you down personally and professionally. My behavior has caused considerable worry to my business partners.

"To everyone involved in my foundation, including my staff, board of directors, sponsors, and most importantly, the

young students we reach, our work is more important than ever.

"Thirteen years ago, my dad and I envisioned helping young people achieve their dreams through education. This

work remains unchanged and will continue to grow.

"From the Learning Center students in Southern California to the Earl Woods scholars in Washington, D.C., millions of kids have changed their lives, and I am dedicated to making sure that continues.

"But still, I know I have bitterly disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done

the things I did. I am embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry.

"I have a lot to atone for, but there is one issue I really want to discuss. Some people have speculated that Elin

somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night. It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that.

"Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage,

ever. Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame.

"The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What

I did is not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame.

"I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced

myself that normal rules didn't apply. I never thought about who I was hurting.

"Instead, I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries that a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations

around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them.

"I was wrong. I was foolish. I don't get to play by different rules. The same boundaries that apply to everyone

apply to me. I brought this shame on myself. I hurt my wife, my kids, my mother, my wife's family, my friends, my

foundation, and kids all around the world who admired me.

"I've had a lot of time to think about what I've done. My failures have made me look at myself in a way I never

wanted to before. It's now up to me to make amends, and that starts by never repeating the mistakes I've made. It's

up to me to start living a life of integrity.

"I once heard, and I believe it's true, it's not what you achieve in life that matters; it's what you overcome.

"Achievements on the golf course are only part of setting an example. Character and decency are what really count.

"Parents used to point to me as a role model for their kids. I owe all those families a special apology. I want to say to them that I am truly sorry.

"It's hard to admit that I need help, but I do. For 45 days from the end of December to early February,

I was in inpatient therapy receiving guidance for the issues I'm facing. I have a long way to go. But I've taken my first

steps in the right direction.

"As I proceed, I understand people have questions. I understand the press wants to ask me for the details and

the times I was unfaithful. I understand people want to know whether Elin and I will remain together. Please know

that as far as I'm concerned, every one of these questions and answers is a matter between Elin and me.

"These are issues between a husband and a wife.

"Some people have made up things that never happened. They said I used performance-enhancing drugs. This is completely

and utterly false. Some have written things about my family. Despite the damage I have done, I still believe

it is right to shield my family from the public spotlight.

"They did not do these things; I did.

"I have always tried to maintain a private space for my wife and children. They have been kept separate from my

sponsors, my commercial endorsements.

"When my children were born, we only released photographs so that the paparazzi could not chase them.

However, my behavior doesn't make it right for the media to follow my two-and-a-half-year-old

daughter to school and report the school's location.

"They staked out my wife and they pursued my mum. Whatever my wrongdoings, for the sake of my family, please leave my

wife and kids alone.

"I recognise I have brought this on myself, and I know above all I am the one who needs to change. I owe it to my

family to become a better person. I owe it to those closest to me to become a better man. That's where my focus will

be.

"I have a lot of work to do, and I intend to dedicate myself to doing it. Part of following this path for me is

Buddhism, which my mother taught me at a young age.

"People probably don't realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I

drifted away from it in recent years. Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy

and pointless search for security.

"It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught.

"As I move forward, I will continue to receive help because I've learned that's how people really do change. Starting

tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy.

"I would like to thank my friends at Accenture and the players in the field this week for understanding why I'm

making these remarks today.

"In therapy I've learned the importance of looking at my spiritual life and keeping in balance with my professional

life. I need to regain my balance and be centered so I can save the things that are most important to me, my marriage

and my children.

"That also means relying on others for help. I've learned to seek support from my peers in therapy, and I hope

someday to return that support to others who are seeking help. I do plan to return to golf one day, I just don't

know when that day will be.

"I don't rule out that it will be this year. When I do return, I need to make my behavior more respectful of the

game.

"In recent weeks I have received many thousands of e-mails, letters and phone calls from people expressing

good wishes. To everyone who has reached out to me and my family, thank you. Your encouragement means the world to

Elin and me.

"I want to thank the PGA Tour, Commissioner (Tim) Finchem, and the players for their patience and understanding while

I work on my private life. I look forward to seeing my fellow players on the course.

"Finally, there are many people in this room, and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today I want to ask

for your help. I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again.

"Thank you."

Dear Rabbi,
Why does the Jewish religion seem to fuss over insignificant details? How much matza do we have to eat, which spoon did I use for milk and which for meat, what is the right way to tie my shoelaces?  It seems to me that this misses the bigger picture by focusing on tiny trivia. Is this nitpicking what Jews call spirituality? I actually already sent you this question over a week ago and didn't receive a reply. Could it be that you have finally been asked a question that you can't answer?!

Signed, Rob

 Dear Rob,
I never claimed to have all the answers.  There are many questions that are beyond me. But it happens to be that I sent a reply the same day despite the fact that I've been away from home on a rigorous speaking tour in the USA.  The fact that you didn't receive it is itself the answer to your question. You see, I sent you a reply, but I wrote your email address leaving out the "dot" before the "com". I figured that you should still receive the email, because after all, it is only one little dot missing.
I mean come on; it's not as if I wrote the wrong name or something drastic like that!  Would anyone be so nitpicky as to differentiate between “yahoocom" and "
yahoo.com"?  No, it's not ridiculous.  Because the dot is not just a dot.  It represents something.  That dot has meaning far beyond the pixels on the screen that form it. To me it may seem insignificant, but that is simply due to my ignorance of the ways of the web. All I know is that with the dot, the message gets to the right destination; without it, the message is lost to oblivion.
Torah observance and mitzvah fulfillment contain a world of symbolism.  And every dot counts. When the mitzvot are performed with precision, a spiritual vibration is emailed throughout the universe, all the way to G-d's inbox. If you want to understand the symbolism of the dot, study cyber tech. If you want to understand the symbolism of Judaism, study Torah.

Yours always,

LB

The theme of Chanuka is to keep on thinking of all the great benefits we need to always thank Hashem for.

Thus it pays to study Brochos 10 a where we learn of 5 worlds that we pass through & the obligation to sing praises to Hashem for them.

1- 9 months of miracles in the womb
2- after birth seeing the stars Hashem made for us !

3- the miracle of 2 fountains of milk mothers have when they need them.

Along the lines of your project ......

Dear Rabbi Dr. Twerski:

I realize I may be out of order, but I am in such great anguish.

A year ago my husband, a fine talmid chacham, was operated on for lung
cancer caused by cigarette smoking. Recently it recurred, and the
doctors are not giving him much time. Only a miracle can save him, and
I pray for him every day at the Kotel.

I had pleaded with him for years to stop smoking, but to no avail.
Now, unless Hashem grants us a miracle, I must face the bitter reality
that I will be left with nine children to care for without a source of
parnassah.

What do I have to look forward to? A full page ad signed by the
gedolim, "Rachmanim bnei rachmanim. Come to the rescue of the widow of
a talmid chacham and his nine yesomim, whose father died an untimely
death"? Am I to send out letters soliciting help? Why should we expect
others to be rachmanim on nine yesomim when their father was not a
rachman on them? If he didn't have enough rachmonus on them to give up
smoking, why should strangers care? I love my husband dearly, but as
much as I love him, that's how angry I am at him for what he did to
us.

Advertisement:

The gedolim who will sign the appeal for me – why didn't they use
their authority to make him stop smoking? What could they have done?
They could have said, "Because you are committing the terrible sin of
suicide and leaving your family destitute, you will not have an
aliyah, you will not be permited to daven for the amud, you will not
get a hakafah, and you will be pasul as a witness, unless you stop
smoking." I think he would have listened. They might even say that
anyone who dies from a self-inflicted disease will be treated
according to the halacha of suicide.

I appeal to the gedolim. You be the rachmanim. You can prevent women
from becoming widows and children from becoming yesomim. Your signing
an urgent appeal for me and my children will be too little and too
late. I need a husband, and my children need a father.

To other wives whose husbands are smoking, don't just sit there. You
have a responsibility to protect your children. Protest to your
rabbonim that they should do everything in their power to prevent such
tragedies, and they should know that if they are lax in doing so, they
must share the responsibility for the tragedy that befalls wives and
children.
But let's not forget, that the husband's friends should be rachmanim also.
They have much more influence than anyone else, even Rabbonim and spouses.

It's time we all showed more Ahavas Yisroel.

The Dorash Moshe explains that 3 things usually happen when two people meet.
