Wasted Words -57

One of the great lessons that we learn from Tisha Bav is not to cry for nothing. The Talmud says , because they were complaining & crying for no good reason Hashem would give them reason to cry , measure for measure.

A fault finder drives away his friends. Mishlei 16:28.
People dislike complainers. Hashems great purpose in creating the Universe was for kindness , Tehilim 89:3. This is Hashems greatest desire , Micha 7:18.
Hashem is our greatest & best Friend , the source of all of our friendships.

Word Metaphors - 56

What if someone said he got a portion the size of a bean , another person said the size of an olive & a third person said the size of a lizards tail.
The Talmud says that the third person is one with a character flaw.
His manner of expression is a clue to what he is all about. Better than a handwriting analysis , we have a word usage profile.
Like the story of the 3 people who were reporting about a banquet they had attended. One said , I loved the Torah insight , the second one loved the singing & the ruach. The third loved the food !
The words you choose to use influence your future & reveal your past. Hashem grants us the power to intensify or diminish our feelings & emotions by means of how we express ourselves.

Value of Words -55

What would you prefer a monetary gift or a verbal one ?

The Talmud Bava Basra 9b , teaches that one who gives a poor person even a single coin gains 6 glorious blessings from Heaven. But one who adds some kind words gains 11 additional blessings.
We see that words are worth almost twice as much as money !

Choosing Words - 54

The phrase , guard your tongue , follows the verse , who desires life , loves days to see good.
This teaches us the proper attitude. Words should not become our enemy. They can be our friends when we learn how to avoid the negative & choose the right ones.

Here are some tips on finding the best words & feeling better.
1. Relax your mind & emotions, realize that Hashem will help you & enjoy the process. When you focus on loving the days Hashem provides , He will expand your time to get more done.
2. Hashem has ways of providing you with an abundance of the right words at the right time.
3. Keep good cheer & joy at the top of your list of priorities. Don't rush , think instead , how can I enjoy this project Hashem is sending my way. ?
4. Take a pause when you feel drained. Say , let me catch my breath with some silence to regenerate my supply of words.

Words of Judgement - 53.

We are always judging issues & situations.
Thus the C. C. Teaches a great , primary rule in these matters (3:7).
If one errs & judges someone to the negative & then speaks against that person , it is a double crime for he also transgreses the Mitzva to judge others favorably.
We tend to have mistaken assumptions. We may be wrong in thinking we know why someone is doing something you think should be different. We think we know better , how things should be.

Stop judging negatively , be positive & get a double mitzva.
Gossip begins in ones mind , based on the way we perceiove things. We need to change the way we look at things , to always use Torah vision.

Words for a Reason - 52

Some words penetrate our mind & heart for a moment , others for longer & others ring on for a lifetime. Every word has a purpose in our lives & it plays a role in inspiring us to fulfill our purpose.
Some are quick lessons with blessings , gifts that enable & empower you to grow & succeed. A brief phrase may answer a question that sheds light & directs you on the course to stay on track.
Some words are challenges to get us to think , to question , to yearn & grow.
Every season has a reason for us to develop our path & purpose in Hashems service. Every word can guide us closer to align with Hashem.

Timely Words - 51

Words are worth money , but the timing increases the value.
If a fruit is plucked off a tree while it is unripe , it may be inedible , untasty & unhealthy. If you wait too long it can become spoiled & harmful. Everything has a right time.
Mishlei teaches , a thing in its proper time is great. The timing is an essential element of each entity.
The Mishna Avos 4:4 teaches
There is no person who does not have his time !

The word dovor means thing , but is the same as dibur for words. Every word has its time. We need to pray for Hashems help to say the right words at the proper time.

Words in a Forest - 49

What if someone speaks negative words about someone but he is alone in a forest , is it forbidden ?

The Chofetz Chaim cites 3:6:7 , the Rabeinu Yonah that their are two parts to gossip -
The harm & shame to the victim ,
& the choice to speak words that negate someone & rejoice in their pain. Thus the C. C. Teaches that if one spoke with the awareness that no harm will result to the victim , it is still forbidden.
We are suggesting a step further even if one is alone in a room the Torah does not want a person to vilify another.

There are words , comments & expressions that have deeper connotations & thus may be forms of gossip & loshon hora. The C. C gives examples in chapter 3 of secret forms of gossip.
We need to take the time to look below the surface of the words we consider using. It is like mining for gold or oil , the words may be explosive in a negative way & we can become rich by avoiding them.
