Thanking for challenges

Why do we thank Hashem for the milchomos / battles ?

Rav Y. I. Sher explains that by providing us with challenges that we had to battle to overcome we had the opportunity to achieve greatness. Fighting for a cause strengthens ones resolve to hate the enemies of Hashem & all forms of wickedness.
This was a growth process which Hashem granted us for which we are grateful forever.
Now may be a good time for a gem of Torah study.
